ALBERTANS HAVE QUESTIONS

The Alberta Way is a movement that is holding Alberta politicians accountable to the values we have built our province on and live by - talking straight, working hard and keeping our promises. It starts with us asking our politicians those tough questions and getting answers.

INTEGRITY IS THE ALBERTA WAY

Albertans value hard work, straight talk, and keeping our promises. Call it The Alberta Way. We expect it from ourselves, our family, our neighbours and our leaders, but lately many politicians haven’t been living up to The Alberta Way. It’s time for Albertans to demand leaders we can trust, who will say what they mean and keep their word.

Not so long ago, agreements in Alberta were sealed with a handshake. We let the lawyers and paperwork catch up with us because we counted on a high degree of integrity in each other. It’s a value Albertans still cherish. Unfortunately, the PC government has a growing track record of broken promises and policy reversals with predictably damaging results. A promised increase in investment in post secondary education quickly became a 9% cut, causing turmoil for students, faculty and administrators.

Families of severely disabled residents of the Michener Centre in Red Deer, who were promised Michener would stay open, were suddenly informed that the PC government was shutting its doors. Legislation to strip workers of their right to arbitration was rammed through then put on hold. In the wake of the flood, victims who were promised swift action are still waiting. And the list goes on.

Since early September Premier Prentice has taken the lead and shown steps can be made to repair damaging decisions of the past including reversal of the decision to close Michener. It’s more important than ever to remind our political leaders that they are accountable to those same standards and values we’ve always lived by as Albertans. That’s the Alberta Way.

It's time we had a government that believes in doing things the Alberta way: Working hard, talking straight and keeping its promises.

THE POLITICAL SCENE

It’s been a turbulent period in Alberta politics. In the past few years Albertans of all political stripes were horrified as the government broke promises, bullied employees and betrayed the disabled, seniors and students. Politicians’ complete disregard for average Albertans was made clear by expense and travel scandals, along with enormous compensation packages for themselves and their inner circle. You can keep them honest next election. Keep tabs on what the parties are up to here.
